Dr. Michele Stengård is a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist with over 25 years of experience treating a wide variety of species including dogs, cats, horses, birds, pocket pets, exotic species and food animals. As an internationally recognized expert in veterinary ophthalmology, Dr. Stengård has contributed to veterinary textbooks, published scientific research articles and presented numerous lectures to veterinarians, veterinary students and breed organizations.

After completing a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University in 1991, she went on to the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Dr. Stengård was then accepted into a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship in Massachusetts which was completed in 1997. She then began a 3-year Comparative Veterinary Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. After finishing the residency, Dr. Stengård successfully completed the board certification and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2000. From 2000 to 2013, Dr. Stengård worked for private veterinary specialty hospitals in Florida. In 2014, she relocated to Switzerland spending time at the University of Zürich Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the University of Berne Veterinary Teaching Hospital providing consultations, surgery and teaching in the Ophthalmology Department. In 2022, she founded Blue Sky Animal Eye Specialists and works privately in multiple clinics throughout Switzerland. She is an affiliate member of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists

During her free time Dr. Stengård enjoys hiking, cross-country skiing, yoga, traveling and learning new languages. She lives in Zürich with her family including 3 cats, Sassy Pants, Mochi and Harvey.
